KOREA VS TURKEY hair transplant : after 2 month review

aKorean : turkey hair transplant

It’s been about two months since I got my hair transplant in Turkey, and I’m finally writing this post. Honestly, it’s still too early to judge the final result, but I wanted to share my experience in case it helps other Koreans who are thinking about getting a hair transplant in Turkey, just like I was.

It took me a long time to make the decision. I watched countless YouTube videos and read reviews over and over, but even then, I couldn’t easily say, “Okay, I’m doing this.” There wasn’t one big turning point. I think I just got tired of myself for constantly overthinking and delaying it. At some point, I felt that doing it sooner was better than spending more time worrying.

That’s when I remembered Turkey Knows Hair Transplant, someone I had known about for a while. I was always impressed by how the whole Turkey hair transplant process was explained in a way that felt realistic and easy to understand from a Korean perspective.

So I reached out. From the very first inquiry, everything was explained calmly and clearly, which reduced a lot of my anxiety. The preparation process for a Korean getting a hair transplant in Turkey turned out to be much simpler than I expected.

I planned my surgery around my wife’s schedule, since she was returning from an Antarctic trip, so we decided to meet at Istanbul Airport and move forward from there. Flights and accommodation were already booked when I was told the surgery date needed to change due to local holidays after Ramadan.

The schedule became complicated, and I was honestly stressed. In that situation, Turkey Knows Hair Transplant and Irem offered to pick up my wife, who was arriving early in the morning, and me, who was already in Turkey, separately. That level of care made it easier for me to trust them and adjust the plan again.

One of my biggest worries about getting a hair transplant in Turkey as a Korean was communication, but that concern completely disappeared. I met Irem, the interpreter, on the day of the surgery, and her Korean was very natural. She explained everything clearly, from pre-surgery instructions to post-surgery care, and answered even the smallest questions.

During the procedure, she also took great care of my wife while she waited, which left a strong impression on us. My wife, who is American, was especially surprised by how responsive and attentive everyone was. She even asked me to pass along her thanks, and she still wonders about the name of the chocolate Irem bought for her that day.

The surgery started after a simple blood test. I had heard many stories about how painful the anesthesia could be, but in my case, it felt more like quick pinches and was manageable. In the morning, the grafts were extracted, then after a light lunch, the implantation was done in the afternoon.

There were no long breaks, and because of that, the medical staff said the procedure finished about two to three hours earlier than expected. The total number of grafts was around 3,500.

About two weeks after the surgery, the shedding phase began, and I also experienced mild folliculitis. The hair didn’t fall out from the root but often looked bent or broken in an L-shape, which I had already been told about beforehand, so it wasn’t too alarming.

Before the surgery, I asked about ointment for folliculitis and bought a few tubes from a pharmacy near the clinic.

For those living in the U.S., I would recommend doing this in Turkey, since ointments there often require a prescription and can be much more expensive.

Around one month after the surgery, not only the transplanted hair but also some of my existing hair fell out, making my head look noticeably thinner.

I knew this phase was coming, but seeing it in the mirror still made me feel uneasy. I had my hair transplant in Turkey on April 2, and thankfully, around the two-month mark, new hairs started to grow. Some feel rough to the touch, while others are softer, and I can feel small changes happening day by day.

The growth is uneven, which can be frustrating, but I’m choosing to believe that time will take care of it.

For now, this post reflects my experience about two months after getting a hair transplant in Turkey as a Korean. Once there are more visible changes, I plan to write another update. I hope this helps anyone who is still on the fence and spending a lot of time worrying, just like I did.
