I started losing hair pretty early compared to most people, and about 20 years ago I ended up getting a strip surgery. Honestly, it was a rough experience. The surgery itself was painful, and the recovery was even harder to describe. Worst of all, the results weren’t what I hoped for, so it just remained as a painful memory of “failure” for me.
It’s been a long time since then, but because that first experience was so tough, it really took me years of hesitation—and a lot of courage—to even think about trying again.

This time, from the very first consultation, Ms. Irem walked me through everything—preparations, flights, travel plans, and even my return home. Thanks to her help, my anxiety slowly turned into reassurance and confidence.
Preparing for the trip wasn’t simple. Passport renewal, booking flights and hotels, getting an international driver’s license, setting up an eSIM, traveler’s insurance—you name it. Before I knew it, the departure day had arrived.

But honestly, this trip wasn’t just about surgery. For the first time since our honeymoon—eight years ago—my wife and I got to travel abroad, just the two of us. We stayed 6 nights and 8 days, touring Pamukkale and taking a half-day Istanbul tour that covered both the modern and historic districts, as well as the European and Asian sides of the city. One of my favorite memories was eating clay-pot kebab at a restaurant a friend recommended—watching the fire show while enjoying dinner in Istanbul was unforgettable.

Of course, even while sightseeing, the thought of the surgery was always in the back of my mind. But what really helped me was receiving supportive messages on the very morning of surgery—it gave me extra strength and peace of mind.
On the surgery day, I arrived at the hospital early. After a consultation, shaving, hairline design, and blood pressure check, they started with anesthesia at the donor area and follicle extraction. After lunch, they moved on to the transplant itself, and by around 4:20 PM, everything was finished.

Despite anesthesia, I did feel significant pain during the donor extraction, but the actual transplant part was surprisingly tolerable. In total, they transplanted 3,500 grafts, and the medical team said the procedure went really well. Now, it’s all about being patient through the “ugly duckling” phase and taking care of my scalp until the new hair grows.
While I was in surgery, my wife went to a nearby pharmacy to buy hair-loss medication. In Türkiye, you can just walk into a pharmacy and purchase it without hassle. I got Avodart, which cost 203 lira—about 8,000 won. That’s nearly one-third of the price in Korea, so it felt much more affordable. Definitely something worth noting for others.

I plan to keep documenting how my hair changes over time. And to anyone reading this who might be considering a hair transplant—if you’re like me and hesitant because of fear or past experiences, I just want to encourage you to take that step with courage. It might be worth it.
