I had my hair transplant last November, and now that it’s been about five months, I thought I’d share a midterm update.
Around day 10, scabs started to form and slowly fell off. It was pretty itchy and uncomfortable at that stage. I remember around day 14, I had to be really careful not to scratch them off, because pulling the scabs too early could also pull out the transplanted hairs. It was tough, but I managed to endure it.
By around day 40, most of the scabs were gone, though there were still some marks on the transplanted area. Since I hadn’t had a haircut in a while, my hair looked a bit messy. Then, around day 62, what people call the “shedding phase” started. My front hair began to fall out, and I’d see hairs on my pillow every morning. Honestly, this was the hardest time mentally.

By day 85, the shedding was in full swing. My hairline and crown looked so thin that every time I looked in the mirror, I couldn’t help but sigh. Still, I kept telling myself it would get better with time. From day 110 to 120, I was still in that difficult stage, but I noticed the shaved look starting to fade, which gave me a little bit of comfort.
Around day 140, I still thought I was in the shedding phase, but when I compared photos, I started seeing small signs of improvement. By day 150, I could actually tell that my hair density had increased. Even people around me began to notice, saying my hair looked thicker, and my hairdresser mentioned it looked much better than just two weeks earlier.

By early April, around day 160, my front hairline had definitely filled in more. When I touched my scalp, it felt prickly, like tiny pencil leads growing out. The hair’s still short, so I can’t really style it yet, but seeing it grow back little by little is giving me my confidence back.
I’m still taking hair loss medication regularly and also keeping up with supplements. Honestly, dealing with hair loss takes medicine, time, and patience. Once I was able to get a haircut again, I started going every two weeks to trim just the sides and back. The toughest part during the shedding phase wasn’t even the hair loss itself—it was not being able to style my hair properly. No matter what I wore, everything felt off. That’s when I really understood the saying, “Hair makes the man.” Even my dog looks great with long fur but kind of funny after a shave—it’s the same for humans and dogs alike.

The hair loss medication I’m currently taking is a newer generic version. I’ve been on it for about three months now, and I’ve realized how important it is to start treatment early once you notice hair loss. I honestly regret not starting sooner.
Things definitely improve with time. I plan to post another update after a full year. I hope this post helps anyone considering a hair transplant. Wishing everyone healthy, full hair—and confidence to match.
